Social Development
Though friends are increasing important, children this age still love to be involved in family activities so make participation in these such as going to dinner with grandparents, and responsibilities like chores part of the standard daily routine. Most children at this age need a strong, emotionally consistent parent. This relationship is a at the core of resilience and well-being, so prioritizing family fun activities, and valuing whatever your child enjoys will make things easier for them as they transition into adolescence. Conversely, your tween might try to test boundaries and push back on rules but as much as they want to be fully independent, it is important to remember that your pre-teen is still a child and will frequently need adult help to sort through the challenges they face.
